Chairman’s Report 2010 – 2011

This year I have decided to present a Chairman’s report more on the lines which I presented whilst employed as Chairman & Managing Director of our family owned Manufacturing Company. I have also taken note of comments which have been made by some of our members. This report therefore has been compiled listing various events and areas of interest which have taken place over the previous 12 months.
You will no doubt all be aware of one significant item which has taken a considerable amount of time and contributed to the main area of expense , this being the new Truck Storage Shed which has now been virtually completed and will hopefully soon be in service. The traverser frame and track support framework have now been manufactured and fitted and now requires the interlocking mechanism to be manufactured and fitted. To enable the traverser & truck shed to be used to the best advantage two Head Shunt tracks are in the process of being installed. Unfortunately progress on the above project has been slowed somewhat due to the inclement weather experienced over the past few months.
Other significant items completed over the past 12 months have been the provision of an Instant hot Water Heater to improve hand washing facilities etc. The existing electrical system has been brought up to date by one of our members who is a qualified electrician and who has now issued the necessary IEE Certificate.
During the past year we have enjoyed several memorable talks given by both invited guest speakers and also by some of our members. The programme of events has been organised by our Mr. Stuart Daw who I would like to thank for his efforts.
The public running was completed without any major dramas and I would like to thank all the members who contributed to what is our main source of income other than members’ subscriptions which are levied in an effort to cover our overheads.
Membership is fairly static but we have a few new members who have proved to be valuable assets to our society.
One other area which has changed has been the introduction of a phased boiler testing system being carried out over an extended period which has proved helpful to both our Boiler Inspector Registrar and to society members.
I am not going to give a detailed financial report as this will be submitted by our Treasurer who will be able to answer any detailed questions which may arise, however I have no reason to believe that there are any problems where finances are concerned and am quite happy with our financial situation.
I now move on to my vision for the future of our Society which as you all know is our 75th Anniversary Year.
I am very optimistic for our future as there are quite a few members actively engaged in the process of constructing new models with many other members running whenever there is an opportunity to carry passengers, which of course both adds to our coffers and ensures that our presence is kept before the public.
So what of the future in our 75TH year? We are in the process of organising the Narrow Gauge Efficiency Trials in early June which will be welcome publicity.
There are other projects which have been suggested but not seriously discussed due to the existing project workload, these being :-
1 Passenger Trucks with through train braking systems.
2 Improved Methods for unloading/loading models especially with models now being larger.
3 The installation of an emergency caravan type toilet with suitable enclosure.
4 Provision of tiling around hand washing area.
5 Investigation into condition of roof over main headquarter area.
As you can see from this report our society is continuing to act in a positive and enthusiastic mode and I have every confidence that this will carry on with the support of all our members.
I trust that the coming year will be as enjoyable and successful as the last.
